When God set apart the Levites, the priestly tribe, as receiving portions from Jehovah Himself (Numbers 18:20), one commentator speaks of them as being His "peculiar possession." It was a rich inheritance bestowed upon them, chosen from among the 12 tribes of Israel. How blessed they must have felt to have been singled out in such a special manner. We are fortunate in this country to be able to choose our marriage partner. Our husband has been chosen by us - his wife, and set apart as our "peculiar possession." (And God knows just how peculiar they can be at times!) Our husband is someone to be protected lest an intruder invade our territory. He should be nurtured lest he wither and become stale. He should be respected lest his self-worth is lost in the shadows. He should be honored lest his reputation becomes distasteful. He should be adored lest he starve for affection. And, he should be loved lest he find comfort somewhere else. If he is in step with God’s formula for how he should love you - "as Christ loves the Church," loving him comes easy. Unfortunately, not all of them understand this concept. Just as unfortunate is the fact that many women fail to grasp the importance of loving him into this understanding.
