So how do we set aside time for important things? We just do. Yesterday morning found me wrought with projects, missions, and a sundry list of items that needed attention. In the midst of all I needed to accomplish, I dragged out the kiddie pool, filled it up with water so it could draw heat from the beautiful sunny day, and anticipated what had been yanking at my heart since rising at 5:00 a.m. I called Marcee, my daughter here in Indiana, and asked if I could get the kids around 2:30. We needed to have some “Mimi time”!
Precious faces were waiting on Mimi’s arrival. Georgia had her Swimmies and swimsuit in hand, and Booker grinning from ear to ear announcing, “I’m gonna swim naked, Mimi.” Pleasures abound in this earthly life, but few equal the love that envelope you like your grandchild’s face anticipating your bathing them in special attention.
It doesn’t take much effort to light up someone’s life. Whether it’s your husband, children, grandchildren, a friend or a co-worker. It takes little effort to make someone’s day. It’s simply a matter of Taking the time for things that really count in life.
Filling up a pool, getting out the markers, scissors, paper and glue to construct sharks and fishies and ladybugs, too. It was a delightful afternoon, as little time as we had to share. But, my set-aside time paved a means to get a dose of enjoyment and love enough to make steps lighter and hearts brighter. And to think, they left Mimi’s thinking I had made the day special for them. If they only knew!
